SCV Moms

It's Your Community. Get Connected.

So if those "History/Travel/Basketweaving for Dummies" books can fly off the shelves and land in the hands who want clear, simple instruction, then our City Council Election for Mummies should be perfect.

Our recent survey showed that moms in Santa Clarita DO want to be in-the-know. They are just so busy and not sure where to get the information.

SO... we are asking. What exactly do you want to know about the candidates? We're compiling a list, asking the questions and making a cheat sheet -- we want to be sure you have all of the info so you can make a clear, informed decision on April 13th.

Please share this with friends so we can get as much feedback as possible.

Here are the candidates:
Daniel Henriquez, Accountant
David Gauny, Business Owner
David Galvan, Community Volunteer
Henry Schultz, Retired Scientist
Harrison Katz, College Student
Frank Ferry, Santa Clarita Councilman / Educator
TimBen Boydston, Executive Director
Laurene Weste, Santa Clarita City Councilmember
Marsha McLean, Councilwoman / Environmental Analyst
Kenneth W. Mann, Communications Engineer
Johnny Pride, Actor/Businessman

The current City Council members are deceiving the people about the crime statistics and about the planning for urbanization in Santa Clarita.

The truth is crime has gone up in 7 out of 8 crime categories, including murder, rape, assault, burglary. The only category that went down last year was grand theft auto, but that single category went down so much that overall crime went down 1% year over year. I think crimes against people are a lot more important than auto theft, and if crime is going up in 7 out of 8 categories then our City Council should report the truth and then deal honestly with it, not sugarcoat it. We are adults... we can handle the truth. But the city council incumbents just want to get re-elected, so they want to just say everything is OK.

Congestion is another concern of mine. I've lived here for 55 years, so I have seen a lot of changes in this valley. When I moved here there were about 20,000 people here. We knew everybody it seemed. Things change and a lot of changes are good. But this City Council and the Planning Dept are planning on doubling the population of the SCV in the next 20 years, without a corresponding upgrade in infrastructure in roads and water delivery. The roads are going to go from OK to near gridlock. They are planning for 'in-fill high density development', which will destroy adjoining neighborhoods. This kind of development is exactly what destroyed the San Fernando Valley.

Have you received those slick mailers for the incumbents? They are paid for by out-of-area developers, and they are not concerned about why you like Santa Clarita or why you moved here... to provide a good environment for your kids, good schools, low crime, and less congestion. Those mailers cost a lot of money, but they are really cheap compared to the big money that these special interests can make when they have the City Council in their pocket.

I'm voting for local candidates who have local support... TimBen Boydston and David Gauny. Their websites are www.TimBen.com and www.electdavidgauny.com. They are both on Facebook too. Learn more about them and why they are running. And then vote for your future and your children's future in Santa Clarita. And don't cast a single vote for these incumbents!

Here are questions I would love them to answer:

1. What do you think is the biggest problem/concern in the SCV?

2. If you were given $50,000 to do anything you wanted to improve life in the SCV what would you do with that money and why?

3. What do you plan to do to keep small business in Santa Clarita from going out of business. What are you going to do to support our small businesses?

4. What specific qualities do you bring to the City Council that you think we should know about?

5. The budget is a very important issue. What experience do you bring to work with our City's budget? How will you bring more $$$ to the SCV?

6. Why should I vote for you?

7. If elected, what specifically would you like to accomplish as a member of our City Council.
